Overview
Webcastcloud includes a setting which controls whether captions automatically load in an ON or OFF state when viewers open a video.
When disabled, viewers can still manually enable captions themselves using the CC menu within the video player.
How to Turn Captions OFF by Default
- Login to your Webcastcloud Admin Portal
Navigate to:
Admin > Appearance > Customize
- Select the Play Page tab
- Expand the Video Player menu
- Change the Player Mode from 'Default' to 'Video Mode' if not already selected..
Turn OFF:
Enable Captions by Default
- Save your changes
Viewer Experience
When this setting is disabled:
- Captions will not automatically display when the video loads
- Viewers can enable captions themselves at any time
- Captions remain available through the video player CC menu
- This behaviour applies to both Live Captions and OnDemand Captions, where these optional platform features are enabled on your plan.
Recommended Usage
Turning captions OFF by default may be preferred when:
- Captions are optional
- You want viewers to choose their own accessibility preferences
- Live captions are enabled but should not appear automatically
